To simplify how tradespeople manage their work and communicate with clients, Entrepreneur, Melissa Matthew set out to create a platform that streamlines every stage of a job, from quoting and scheduling to approvals and payments.

With a clear vision but limited time as a full-time professional and solo founder, she joined the Innovative Entrepreneurs programme to connect with like-minded entrepreneurs, gain insight, and build the structure needed to bring her idea to life.

Reen Platforms is an all-in-one platform designed initially for tradespeople to manage their jobs effectively. Over time, the goal is to expand the platform to support any service-based interaction between customers and businesses.

The platform allows both parties to agree on the scope of work, costs and changes in real time, ensuring transparency and accountability. It also includes appointment management tools and categorised conversation channels (e.g. cost, general updates, or job cancellations) to make communication clearer and more efficient.

One of the main challenges Melissa faced before joining the platform was time management. Balancing a full-time job while developing the business meant progress was slower than she hoped. As a sole trader, she carried full responsibility for every aspect of the business, from concept development to testing the app, which required significant time.

The coaching sessions from the programme proved particularly valuable for Melissa. Providing dedicated time for focussed discussions about her business strategy and available resources helped her stay accountable, keep sight of objectives and make progress between meetings.

The peer group sessions created an open, supportive space to discuss challenges and share solutions with others in similar startup journeys. The most beneficial part of the programme for Melissa was the investment readiness training, Melissa comments:

“This was my favourite part as this got me to a point where I can discuss my idea with confidence. It took me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to share my business in front of not only my colleague but a panel. It helped me to think about how to structure my pitch clearly so others could understand my vision. The experience was great.”

Through the programme, Melissa achieved several key milestones, including officially registering the business as a limited company, launching a website (https://reenplatform.co.uk/) gaining clarity about funding options and financial management.

The next stage of development focuses on conducting competitor analysis and adding additional features to align the platform more closely with a business to consumer model.
