RTC North has been announced as the lead organisation for the STEM Ambassador Hub North East England, set up to inspire young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
The Hub will connect teachers, leaders of non-school groups, STEM Ambassadors and employers in order to inspire the next generation of STEM professionals.
The STEM Ambassador Hub North East England is one in a network of 19 Hubs that will manage the volunteering opportunities for the UK’s 33,000 registered STEM Ambassadors.
The network is managed by the National STEM Learning Centre and Network, which works to enable more young people to enjoy, achieve and progress in STEM subjects and STEM related careers.
Yvonne Baker, Chief Executive of the organisation, said: “We are delighted to be integrating the prestigious STEM Ambassadors programme, alongside our network of Science Learning Partnerships, and other projects supporting STEM education.
“However, we cannot do this alone - our partnerships with the STEM Ambassador Hubs, Science Learning Partnerships and our partners in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, are fundamental to our success.”
RTC, through its delivery of previous STEM contracts understands the importance of bringing together young people and inspiring STEM role models.
The company has provided effective support, information, advice and guidance to schools to enhance their STEM curriculum whilst signposting them to providers of STEM enrichment and enhancement activities.
Having held STEMNET contracts for a number of years, RTC have been able to recruit ambassadors from a diverse range of organisations across the North East.
Janine Marshall, Head of Enterprise and Education at RTC said: “We are delighted to be the region’s STEM Ambassador Hub.
“STEM initiatives are vital to learning, as being able to fully experience hands-on STEM activities and to see the real world application of STEM subjects motivates young people and brings learning to life.
“We hope to continue supporting young people and educators in the North East as we have done for many years.”
