Hydrascan Ltd, the R & D subsidiary of Kilbride Environmental Services Ltd, was formed to meet the challenge issued by Northumbria Water to clean large diameter water mains in North East England.
The first product developed by Hydrascan was the Typhoon System which went on to carry out cleaning works in AMP 5 on over 50km of water mains ranging in diameters from 10 inch to 38 inches.
The system was awarded the Innovation Award by the United Kingdom Society for Trenchless Technology in 2009 and went on subsequently to be awarded the International Product of the Year Award in 2011 by the International Society for Trenchless Technology and was shortlisted for the Engineer Technology and Innovation Award 2010.
In 2015, the company launched ‘The Transformer Pig’ - the latest innovation in the Typhoon Cleaning System range.
Developed to enable cleaning of very large diameter water mains on the Manchester Ring Main, this new technology means a single pig can clean water mains with diameters that vary between 32 and 72 inches.
The Typhoon system is patent protected in territories around the world and has been demonstrated to all major UK water companies and delegations from Brazil, India, Japan and Australia.
RTC North has supported the company with market research, IP portfolio management, marketing and a joint advertising and PR campaign to raise awareness.
"RTC North has supported us right through the innovation process and delivered excellent results whether helping with development of the technology itself, researching our market or generating interest within the industry." Julian Guy, Director, Kilbride Environmental
