Craig Huntingdon raises the curtain on his new chapter as a Scale Up North East partner as he shares some interesting insights from his daily working routine:
You might think eight weeks might seem like a reasonable amount of time to establish some sort of daily routine, introduce some regularity and maybe to experience just a little monotony, but I can honestly say that just hasn’t been my experience!
When discussing the role at interview, the sheer ambition of the programme and the opportunity to make a real difference to the North East economy was compelling. By selectively working with North East firms and helping to stimulate their growth we aim to support the creation of over 1,300 new and better jobs. Little did I know, that within weeks, the programme would be working with over 100 businesses all looking to start their scale up journey or continue to grow by helping them address challenges preventing them from scaling further.
Having built, sold, scaled, exited and even crashed a number of North East businesses over the last 20 years, I thought I had a good insight into the North East business community, but I am a little embarrassed to admit, that most of the businesses I am now working with were completely under my radar. How could I not be aware of these successful businesses that are quietly going about doing brilliant things, with brilliant people in this brilliant part of the world. But I suspect that’s typical of many of us, we only know what we know and us Northerners tend to just get on with our business without needing to shout from the rooftops about what we are doing – Scaleup North East will help address this by shining a spotlight on hundreds of these unsung businesses and celebrate the fact that they are growing fast.
So what have I achieved in 40 days? Read the full blog here.
