Unlike most products, these are probably ones that we'd prefer not to need, but sadly we live in a world where countries and businesses need to protect themselves, so it pays to get it right.
And perhaps, the fact that these products are designed to be very effective might act as a deterent, meaning they might never be deployed.
So we'll be hearing from companies that have developed leading edge technology to counter ever changing threats from around the world, seeing how they respond to innovation on the 'other side', and create products that help keep us safe
Speakers include -
John Atkins, Kromek.
From a niche technology for growing crystals, to a global technology leader , the last 20 years have for Kromek been a prime example of turning a scientific discovery into a commercial powerhouse.
With clients including the UK Government, the European Space Agency, and DARPA and NASA in the United States, Kromek's products are used in health screening, airport scanning, radiation protection and anti-terrorism applications.
John will describe what goes on behind the scenes at their NetPark HQ, and how they create products serving such a broad range of applications and clients.
Chad Hooper, Succorfish
From their (perfectly located) base on the banks of the Tyne, Succorfish are leaders in the development of monitoring, tracking and communication systems, particularly those that operate underwater. Whether that's enabling commuications between underwater vehicles, divers, and subsea instruments, using short-burrt acoustic waves, or tracking assets globally using a range of satellite, 5G and IoT protocols, Succorfish have developed solutions for governments and navies around the world.
They are also the team behind MyGearTag, a tracking system that enables the recovery of some of the million tonnes of fishing gear that goes missing every year. And which is made from those recycled fishing nets.
Chad will tell us more
