15th Jun 2022

A leading international infrastructure company, Balfour Beatty is the latest sponsor of STEMFEST NetZero.

STEMFEST NetZero is an inspirational three-day exhibition set to connect more than 3,000 North East schoolchildren to future career options in thriving Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) sectors. Young people will meet with regional businesses and employers during the event in July, hosted at St. James’ Park.

Stephen Tarr, Chief Executive Officer of Balfour Beatty’s Major Projects and Highways Business said: “With over 3,000 students already registered across the region, we look forward to working alongside STEM Fest to help promote the plethora of diverse careers available within the construction and infrastructure industry.

“We hope that this interactive event will engage and inspire the future generation of engineers and construction professionals and in the process stimulate the minds of young people whilst providing a real insight into what it is like to work in the sector in 2022.”

Claire Willis, Business Development Manager for the North East STEM Hub, said: “For over a century Balfour Beatty has shaped the world we live in; they invest locally and build sustainability to connect communities and create the infrastructure that underpins daily lives, so it makes a perfect fit to sponsor our Building and Construction Zone.

“I want to thank Balfour Beatty for supporting our event which aims to connect nine to 13 year olds with over 50 of the regions STEM companies to support the next generation into the sector and to bolster the region’s economy.”

STEMFEST NetZero also welcomes over 50 businesses in five zones; Power and Natural Resources Zone which is sponsored by Dogger Bank Wind Farm, Climate and Adaptation Zone sponsored by Jacobs, Building and Construction Zone sponsored by Balfour Beaty, Business and Industry sponsored by Accenture and the transport zone.

Headline sponsored by Sage, a leader in the account, financial, HR and payroll for small and mid-sized businesses, the face-to-face and digital hybrid event is being coordinated by the North East STEM Hub in partnership with Newcastle United Foundation’s innovative NU Futures programme.
