Business Development with Purpose: Creating Value That Lasts

By Janine Marshall, Head of Business Development, RTC North
At RTC North, business development has never been just about growth for growth’s sake. It’s about creating long‑term value for the businesses we support, the regions we serve, and the people who make our organisation what it is.
As a certified B Corp and an employee-owned business, our purpose shapes every conversation we have. It influences how we build partnerships, how we measure success, and how we balance commercial outcomes with social and environmental impact. For me, that makes business development not only more meaningful, but more effective.
Every engagement starts with listening. Whether we’re working with business owners looking to scale, an organisation navigating change, or a partner shaping regional delivery activity, our role is to understand the challenge in the round. From there, we connect businesses to the right support, be that innovation funding, leadership development, skills, supply chains, or collaborative networks, always with sustainability and long‑term impact in mind.
Being employee‑owned strengthens this approach, everyone at RTC has a genuine stake in our success and our reputation. That sense of shared ownership creates accountability, collaboration, and pride in what we deliver. It also means our business development activity is closely aligned with delivery teams across the organisation, ensuring what we promise is realistic, joined‑up, and rooted in expertise.
Our B Corp commitment reinforces this further. It challenges us to think beyond short‑term wins and focus on outcomes that benefit people, communities, and the environment. In practice, that means prioritising partnerships that share our values, supporting businesses to innovate responsibly, and contributing to stronger, more resilient regional economies.
Business development, at its best, is about opening doors, introducing the right people, shaping opportunities, and helping organisations move forward with confidence. At RTC, it’s also about doing so in a way that reflects who we are and what we stand for.
As we continue to evolve as a B Corp and an employee‑owned organisation, our focus remains clear: to create opportunity with purpose, and growth that lasts.
If you’re interested in purposeful growth and collaboration, I’d love to continue the conversation, and if you’d like to explore how we can work together, reach out to me on LinkedIn and follow RTC North for insights and opportunities.
