Female Founders: Ruby Sheldon and Hannah Wright

18th Dec 2025

This episode of Northern Spotlights features two inspiring female founders, each building innovative products designed for children.

We dive into what its really like to be a female founder, the challenges and wins along the way, and the types of support available to entrepreneurs today.

Ruby Sheldon is the Founder/Director of Slime Party UK, who manufacture sensory putty. Ruby’s business began when her daughters’ messy attempt at slime inspired her to run a workshop, which quickly led to party bookings across the UK, including working with brands. When Covid paused parties, she shifted to selling DIY slime kits, later developing a unique sensory putty that immediately caught retailers’ attention. Since then, she’s exhibited at Toymaster, expanded into stores, moved into a slime and putty factory - the only one of its kind in the UK - and is now expanding into Europe.

Hannah Wright is the Founder and CEO of CirKits Ltd, a company celebrated for its award-winning educational resource, ComponentBuilder®. With over a decade of experience as a Computer Science teacher, Hannah was aware of the challenge of engaging students in this subject. This innovative tool makes computer science education enjoyable, allowing students to explore core computing concepts through hands-on experiences.
