Students from The Halifax Academy and The Greetland Academy recently came together to celebrate their achievements as part of the Space Innovations Project, delivered in partnership with ESERO UK and supported by RTC North as Delivery Partner for STEM Ambassadors Yorkshire and Humber.

Over the course of the project, more than 120 students explored the exciting world of space science and engineering. Through practical challenges and hands-on activities, they developed their understanding of space-related careers and discovered how the skills they use in the classroom can connect to real-world opportunities.

The celebration events offered a chance to reflect on everything the students had achieved and recognise the enthusiasm, creativity and commitment they had shown throughout the project. Students received certificates and prizes to mark their contributions, while also sharing their experiences and successes with friends, teachers and project partners.

A highlight of the celebrations was the rocket launch challenge, which brought learning to life in a memorable and exciting way. At The Greetland Academy, the event took on an even bigger scale as the entire Key Stage 2 cohort gathered to watch the launch. Television presenter, author and science communicator Dallas Campbell also joined the celebrations, bringing his enthusiasm for space and exploration to the occasion.

While the rocket launches created a memorable moment for students, the project’s wider purpose was to help young people see themselves as future scientists, engineers, innovators and problem-solvers. Throughout the programme, students were encouraged to explore the many pathways available within the growing UK space sector and the broad range of skills that contribute to exploration, discovery and innovation.

The events marked a fitting conclusion to a project that inspired curiosity, built confidence and demonstrated the value of bringing schools together through STEM learning. By connecting students with exciting real-world applications of science and technology, the Space Innovations Project helped broaden horizons and spark ambitions for the future.

“Many thanks to you all for organising such a fantastic final celebration event for the Space Project. The rocket launch was brilliant, and the cupcakes, prizes and certificates made the occasion even more special for the students.

The celebration was a wonderful way to recognise all of their hard work and achievements. Thank you again for all your support throughout the project. We have really enjoyed being involved and appreciate everything you and the team have done to make it such a success.”

The enthusiasm shown by students across both schools highlighted the importance of giving young people meaningful opportunities to experience STEM in engaging and inspiring ways. As the project comes to a close, it leaves behind happy memories, new confidence and a lasting sense of curiosity about the possibilities that space science and technology can offer.
