Empowering Women through Innovation
09th Apr 2025
Closer Health LTD has recently launched an innovative app on the App Store: Closer.
Designed specifically for women, this app empowers users to track their menstrual cycles, manage symptoms, and align their health and productivity with their hormonal changes - helping to optimise both wellbeing and daily schedules.
Founder and CEO of Closer Health LTD, Adenike Bamigbade had a strong vision of how the app would work and look but needed some help to complete the final version of the product, transitioning from an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) to a fully functional product.
“As a solo founder testing the waters, I sought support to prioritise both my business and myself. My goal by the end of the programme was to have a market-validated product, secure funding, and establish a governance system that would drive the growth of my business.” said Adenike.
Initially, Closer Health Ltd faced several challenges, including assembling the right team, accessing talent, navigating complex data protection laws, prioritisation and meeting the rigorous requirements of app stores - all while operating with limited resources and funding.
Through the Innovative Entrepreneurs programme, Closer Health Ltd had access to a dedicated coach who offered tailored support in the form of regular coaching sessions and participation of action learning sessions with other entrepreneurs at the same stage of growth.
A key element of the support was the guidance offered during multiple fundraising efforts. The founder received vital assistance with applications for Innovate UK grants and was introduced to additional programmes that proved instrumental in scaling the business.
“The programme gave me the mental support, encouragement, and accountability I desperately needed to keep pushing forward. It helped me prioritise my goals and stay committed to the vision.
My coach went above and beyond to ensure I succeeded. They provided critical support in every fundraising attempt I made, from helping with Innovate UK grants to recommending me for other programmes that have been hugely beneficial. Internally, the strong synergy between my coach and other members of the team I engaged with was brilliant. There was a smooth flow of information, ensuring my coach always had what they needed to help me. This cohesive support system made the whole experience incredibly encouraging and ensured no step was missed.” Adenike commented.
With Ralph D’Attorre as their coach, Closer Health were able to work through complex challenges with clarity and confidence. Ralph acted as a vital sounding board for the team, helping them to prioritise and plan effectively while navigating tight timescales and a limited budget.
Thanks to his guidance and support, the company has successfully launched the app – overcoming stringent App Store requirements – built a strong and capable team with clearly defined roles, implemented an effective sales and marketing strategy, laid the groundwork for a successful market entry, and are now confidently managing data protection compliance.
With these achievements, Closer Health Ltd are more confident and prepared to approach future fundraising and business expansion.
Looking ahead, the business has ambitious targets including a goal of raising £180,000 in pre-seed funding to drive growth in 2025, the company is poised for significant milestones.
Reflecting on the journey, Adenike commented “The support from this programme has been a lifeline. As a solo founder, having a coach who listens, challenges my thinking, and provides accountability has been invaluable. My coach truly went out of their way to ensure my success, supporting me through every fundraising attempt. Thanks to their support, I’ve built a stronger team, we’ve launched our app on both Google and Apple, and I’m more confident than ever to take Closer to the next level."
